The Società Italiana di Mineralogia e Petrologia (SIMP; Italian Society of Mineralogy and Petrology) was founded in 1940, to promote mineralogy, petrology and related disciplines, by supporting fundamental and applied research, teaching and any activity aimed at their dissemination. SIMP organises short courses, special teaching programs (e.g., Distinguished Lectures), annual meetings, and issues both grants and awards. Any person, or institution, sharing interests in such fields can join SIMP as a member. Membership includes the subscription to the European Journal of Mineralogy, Elements and Plinius, and allows reduced registration fees to the activities organised by SIMP.
